Chapter 3 - WALKING YOUR HUMANS
All dogs know that every human needs to get their exercise. Your human will often become “chubby” if they don’t have a walking routine. In most cases, it’s up to you, the leader, to save them from their laziness. Follow these steps to get them on the right track.
- Make sure your human tethers themselves to you. This helps to keep them from wandering off, or even running away.
- Your human will need several breaks along the route. Stop so they can sniff often. Be considerate and join in yourself.
- Humans have very short attention spans. Be sure to bark often to keep them on task.
- When you need to use the bathroom, go ahead, then walk away. When you get your human trained properly, they will pick it up themselves. This is good aerobics for them.
- You can use the “Interval Training Method” by occasionally dragging your human as fast as you can. This is especially good for their heart, and reflexes.
- Sometimes your human may want to shorten the length of the walk. DO NOT allow this to happen. You can sit in protest if you can’t keep them going.
- Always use positive reinforcement after the exercise is finished. Once returning home, allow them to remove their tether, then proceed to lick them in the face over and over. This not only shows your love for them, it lets them know that they have completed the task in a positive manner.
Following these steps will help to allow you and your human to enjoy a long, love-filled relationship.
